How should I decorate my money corner?

Some homes are better than others for financial success. This can depend on the compass directions of the front and back wall, or the location of water in the garden. Most homes have areas indoors that can be 'tweaked' to encourage prosperity and financial success. The usual sector is the south east of the ground floor, or of the lounge / living room. The best stimulant is fresh water, but coins and symbols of riches can also be used.

Is it safe to do things myself, or do I need a
feng shui consultant?

It is safe to try placement of symbols using the bagua, and to move furniture around to improve chi - flow in a room, with help from books on feng shui. It's a bad idea to make garden ponds or put in large outdoor water features without some professional feng shui guidance. If your home presents problems that the books don't deal with, or you're not confident about what to do, find a Beginner's Feng Shui course near you, or contact a local consultant.

How do I choose good feng shui bedroom and lounge colours?

It depends when you were born. Your personal energies are 'tuned' to the energies of the year, month, day and hour you were born, so you will react differently to colour and shapes compared to someone born at another time. You will need different elements to 'balance' you.

If you want to choose the colours of a room to support the health or success of the occupant, eg your home office, or a child's bedroom, it is most effective to base your choices on the person's horoscope. The most popular horoscopes are '9 Star Ki' , which can be learned quite quickly, or 'Four Pillars' and 'Zi Wei Dou Shu,' both of which need a professional.

If it's a room that several people use, you will be better choosing colours according to the pakua, or according to the five elements in relation to the room's use. A consultant might also advise decor based on the Flying Star influences in the room, possibly taking account of which individuals they are likely to effect, based on birth-date details.

Can you prove that Feng Shui works?

Most consultants have their own records of what has worked when. I certainly get letters and emails from clients saying that the result they wanted - the feel of the home / the change of job / the new partner / the increase in customers etc - has happened, so I personally am satisfied that substantial benefits are possible. It also works for young children, so it cannot be 'just positive thinking'.

It is not possible to do repeatable standardized experiments with feng shui, as scientists might with fruit flies or beans. Every feng shui change made to a home is an attempt to bring the energy of the person into harmony with the energy of the place and time, and these are always different in particular details.

There is a consistent theory of the way things change that underpins any feng shui decision, so the system is logical, but it is certain that some of the applied knowledge has been lost over the centuries. There are differences of opinion among consultants as to whether feng shui is an art, science or philosophy, but all Feng Shui Society Accredited consultants should be able to tell you what their approach is.
